Cleaning Saltwater Fish Tank
Saltwater fish tank must be kept clean and well maintained as it is extremely necessary for the health of the fish and marine life being kept in them. The nutrient levels in your tank will be best if you keep your tank clean. The health of your fish is dependent on the well balanced environment in your tank.
Provided below are important cleaning tips:
- Firstly you will need to attach a gravel vacuum to a siphon, or the filter system (which has recirculation function) in your tank.
- Secondly remove the waste present in your tank by actually moving the gravel around, which is in the base of the aquarium to help get the waste that has settled within it, floating around in the water again. Then allow a little time for the water and the waste to settle on the gravel's surface, before you use the vacuum to remove it.
- Then clean the glass by giving a good cleaning on the inside with an algae scraper or pad. For stubborn residue on the glass, use a razor blade to scrape it off. If your aquarium is acrylic, use a plastic razor blade, as standard razors will scratch acrylic.
- Once the inside glass is clean, remove rocks, artificial plants, or decorations that have significant algae growth, or are noticeably dirty. Remove the algae and dirt from rocks and plants with an algae scraper.
- Clean the hood, light, tank top, and outside glass with regular glass cleaners which are designated as aquarium safe, and rinse thoroughly.
- Now it’s the turn to clean the filter but for cleaning it you have to wait for about 15 days. The reason for delaying the cleaning of filter is that when you clean the tank you disturb the beneficial bacterial colonies on the plants, rocks, and gravel.
